Reading of last months minutes

Special Invited Guest: Representatives from Space Planning

  • Office of space planning

  • KNOWN: location, known grades moving…

  • A190 process - December 7th proposal was made

    • Jan 24th will go for approval - PEP 166 Essex Street (PEP) 6:00pm

      • Parents have asked if they should go

      • Ms. Kindred will check on the protocol and let the parents know

    • Jan 11 joint public hearing - what will this one look like

    • L. Kindred asked about the protocol meeting

  • Communication and input for construction on the new building has been positive w/M. Verdiner

  • Questions arose regarding the playground

    • They are revamping - phase 1 soft ground will be at least complete

  • M916 upper school

  • M484 lower school

 TCCS Expansion Updates

  • Parents have asked why that building was chosen for lower not upper - Ms. Verdiner told the parents as to why:

    • Common areas are smaller

    • Stairwells are more forgiving, so easier for the lower grades, elevator, yard is SMALL, MPR is EVERYTHING - gym, cafeteria and auditorium

    • Rooms seemed bigger but they’re not

  • SCA was receptive to Ms. Vs suggestions

  • There will be a separate budget for that building

  • Time - will stagger in the two buildings

  • What will after school look like

  • Swimming was brought up - discussion on being bussed or is there a closer bus

 Follow up from Superintendents visit

  • Superintendence Rux was here on December 11th for Ms. Vs PPO

    • Very impressed with the students and teachers

    • Ms. V spoke to her about our needs

      • social/emotional needs

      • Suggested RULER (framework - holding kids accountable, nurturing)

      • Staff and student component

      • MODEL - Thurgood Marshall lower school

      • Ms. V to visit the school to see the morning meeting and visit classroom

      • K. Kefgen - asked about giving the parents info to show how its the same/different from what we have - PBIS, Second Step

 Middle School Enrollment

  • 300 applications for 6th grade enrollment system - mostly D5&6 some from D3&4 and a few from D2&1

    • Not sure if we’ll have 2 or 3 6th grade classes

  • 6th Grade issues discussed
