Meeting Minutes – 3/17/2026

6:32 PM - Meeting commenced by the PTA Board.
6:33 PM - Principal's Address:
Title I School Application: Miss Verdiner announced that TCCS has gained the ability to
apply to become a Title I school, a schoolwide program two years in the making. Thank
you to all who have contributed to this progress.
Language Use: Emphasized the importance of parents discussing appropriate language
with their children, highlighting what is acceptable and what is not in school.
Internet Device Policy: Confiscation of internet devices will continue, as they are not
permitted on school grounds.
Lateness: Addressed the issue of tardiness and urged parents to help ensure students
arrive at school on time.
6:50 PM - Upcoming Events and Announcements:
Ms. Bermudez informs attendees that the student council flyer will be released shortly.
2026 NYC School Survey: Ms. Verdiner reminded attendees that the survey is ongoing
and due by April 1.

6:54 PM - Treasurer's Report:
Expenses: January ($17.40) & February ($17.40) Zoom subscription totaled $34.80.

6:56 PM - PTA Elections and Teacher Appreciation Week:
The PTA Executive Board announced that PTA Executive Board elections will be held in
May. All positions are open to all TCCS parents & guardians. Positions available include:
President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Title I Parent Advisor. Voting will
take place at the upper school in the multipurpose room (MPR).
Teacher Appreciation Week: Scheduled for May 4-8, with themes and menus to be
provided by the PTA. Class parents: please stand by to prepare for planning.
The PTA asks for donations. Monetary or volunteer support is always welcome and
appreciated.

7:03 PM – One Building Progress Inquiry:
A question was raised about obtaining one building for the school. It has been determined
that this will be addressed as a city issue rather than a district one. Thank you to all
parents willing to assist; a new approach will be necessary.

6:32 PM: Principal address given by Ms. Green on behalf of Ms. Verdiner.
6:33 PM: Ms. Green reminds parents of Family Learning Partner (FLP) event on Friday,
1/30 to include Coffee w/the Principal at the Lower School and Middle School Mingle at
the Upper School.
6:34 PM: Ms. Green reassures parents and staff that the buildings are warm due to the
colder temperatures.
6:34 PM: Ms. Green announces the new Chancellor of NYC Public Schools, Kamar H.
Samuels. His office has reached out to different Districts throughout NYC to inquire
about best practices in education. TCCS has been selected for District 5 to receive a visit
from the Chancellors Office sometime in early February.
6:36 PM: A question regarding graduation dates was raised. Ms. Green provided the

6:30 PM: Meeting called to order by the PTA.
6:32 PM: Introduction by Patrice Arrington on behalf of the Principal.
Reported that 145 families attended the student-led conferences last week.
Announced the success of the first high school fair.
Mentioned the success of the K-pop Demon Hunting sing-along hosted by the PTA.
Reminder: Family Learning (FLP) and Middle School Mingle scheduled for Friday at
8:30 AM.
Noted that a parent survey will be distributed regarding feedback on the new curriculum.
6:34 PM: Amy Alvarez’s address:
Confirmed that Teachers College will cover the cost difference for the Roads To Success
after-school program, ensuring its continuation.
Will send an email to class parents seeking participants for a focus group conducted by
Columbia University on technology and family support.
6:36 PM: Treasurer's report presented:
No new income reported.
$569.42 spent on the K-pop Demon Hunter Sing-Along event.
$13.49 spent on Zoom services.

6:40 PM: PTA addressed the “One Building” project.
Announced a shift in focus; efforts will now be directed towards the city and the School
Construction Authority, rather than the District.
6:40 PM: PTA announced a middle school event.
Planned for 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, featuring ramen, chips, and sodas for 6th, 7th, and 8th
graders to enjoy while playing basketball and board games. Date to be confirmed.
The Lower School bake sale will take place on Thursday, December 11, from 8:00 AM to
9:00 AM and from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
Upper School bake sale on Friday, December 12, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 2:30
PM to 5:00 PM.
Scheduled for December 19 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Harlem Social.

6:46 PM: Amy Alvarez mentioned a Kindergarten pre-open house on December 12, with
additional dates available in January and February for promoting pre-K and kindergarten

Meeting Minutes - 10/21/25
October 21, 2025 (Tuesday)
6:34 PM: The PTA gives the floor to Ms. Verdiner (Principal), who addresses everyone
and begins the Title 1 Presentation, breaking down the difference between being a
targeted assistance school versus becoming a Title 1 school.
6:50 PM: Agenda items addressed by Ms. Verdiner, including a recap of the student
council elections, family learning partner/coffee with the principal dates, and middle
school mingle dates (last Friday of every month).
6:55 PM: Ms. Verdiner and Ms. Bermudez discuss the November 10th (Monday) High
School Fair for TCCS 8th graders and District 5 8th graders, stating that 25 out of 90 high
schools have RSVP’d. The event will be from 5:30 pm-7:30 pm.
6:58 PM: Ms. Verdiner discusses uniform and attendance, noting a 94% attendance rate
for September. She emphasizes the need for elementary school students to wear uniforms
more consistently. For Picture Day, uniforms are encouraged but not required.
7:02 PM: Popcorn sale mentioned, scheduled for 11/6-11/9. All funds raised by each
class will go to that class specifically. Funds raised by the 5th and 8th grades will go
towards senior dues, while other grades can allocate funds for trips and treats.
7:04 PM: Ms. Verdiner expresses concerns about the partnership with Roads to Success
due to low enrollment, with only 17 out of 25 seats filled in the after-school program.
Unfortunately, this may mean the partnership will end in December, but she is exploring
ways to maintain the 10-year partnership, recognizing the need for after-school programs.
7:08 PM: Questions about acquiring one building for the school are raised and addressed.
7:10 PM: Amy Alvarez and Ms. Verdiner share the exciting news that the school has
renewed a ten-year, $30 million contract with Teachers College.
7:15 PM: PTA President circles back to address concerns about the desire for a single
building for the school rather than being split across two. A date for a gathering at
District 5 is TBD.

FLP (Family Learning Partners) held this Friday (11/22) in both buildibgs during first period. We will also have Middle School Mingle during first period. Immediately following is Coffee with the Principal, held at the upper school. Parents as Helpers are needed to help organize and assemble tailored material per each grade.
District 5 summit happened today, 5 principles came and visited several classrooms and observed how classrooms functions. We received great feedback! We will most likely be visited by superintendent around March.
We will soon share Parent survey, 75% strongly agree with how school functions.
NEW! Student survey available for grades 3-8. Example of some questions are “Do you feel safe?” And “Do you know where you are?” And “is there someone in the school that makes you feel safe?” Answers are anonymous. 178 students responded.

Welcome greeting: Joelle Oh, PTA Co-President
Principal Address: Principal Verdiner
1. Yoga session: There was Yoga at the Upper School. This is the 2nd time yogis have come to our school and it’s sponsored by District 5 grant that we have. Tomorrow at Lower School.
The only requirement is to sign in that you are a guardian of the student at TCCS, and you would be assigned to a space. Right now they anticipate around 6 parents and they’ll do it daily. Ms. Kam will send out information and she will work with the PTA to get the word out to families.
Please fill out the form for, #1, to hear TCCS parents and guardian’s voices / #2, As we have high level parent engagement, our survey should show that too! The last day to fill it out is April 4th. There are many parts of the survey but one of the important parts is parent involvement. Parent intake, the percentage of parents participating in a survey, can send a message to prospective families, to our politicians. Ms. Kam can help, if you need any student information.

- Discussed turkey delivery issues, purchased turkeys for parents the following day
- ENL teacher update, new ENL teacher for children whom are new to the English language,
Mr. K is his name he started today. - Spirit week will be held December 18, 2023 to December 22 , 2023
- Popcorn fund raiser-classes who sell the most will win prizes, 5th and 8th grade
Sale funds will go to their senior dues - Math Stimulation Exams happened earlier today, tomorrow the second day of exams will
happen and then again in Spring 2024 - Select students in TCCS will be selected to take ELA Regents exam. All students in TCCS
Middle School will take the Living Environment and Algebra1 Regent Exams - December 1, 2023 High School applications are due

- Question: Is there an OT Provider (occupational therapist)? Answer: Yes, we have Ms.
Diskind, she’s our occupational therapist, she was out on medical leave and returned last
week, she’s working on her schedule and will contact you regarding your child.
Question: Where will funds for the other grades selling popcorn go? Answer: The teachers
will get the funding and use it for trips and what is needed for classrooms, it’s up to the
teachers to determine where the funding will go.
