Admissions Overview

TCCS is a non-selective, choice public elementary school that gives priority to families residing in Community School Districts 5 and 6. It first opened in 2011 and serves students in grades pre-K through 8.

What is special about TCCS?

TCCS is a PreK-8 New York City public school that opened in 2011 through a partnership of the NYC DOE and Teachers College. Students are admitted by lottery with preference to students in Districts 5 & 6. TCCS has grown by one grade each year and graduated its first 8th grade class in 2020.

Role of Teachers College

TC provides over $1 million each year in expertise, services, and other resources. TC faculty and graduate students support student learning through curriculum development; student teachers, tutors, and interns; academic enrichment; professional development for teachers; and fundraising.

Middle School Curriculum Highlights

TC Reading & Writing Project, TC-based social-emotional curriculum, EngageNY math and Algebra for All, Science Lab, digital literacy, preparation for 8th grade Regents, dance, technology, digital music

Middle School Extra-Curricular and Special Activities

STEAM programming, orchestra, student council, science fair, field trips, after-school programs, small group targeted interventions

Teachers College Community School Virtual Open Houses

Teachers College Community School virtual open houses provide families with an opportunity to learn about the school's curriculum and philosophy for educating students. Parents will also learn about the unique partnership between Teachers College and will engage in a Q and A with school leadership, teachers, and parents.

Lottery Selection Priorities for Admission

  1. District 5 (map) and 6 (map) residents whose siblings will be enrolled in grades K-8 at TCCS in September 2024.
  2. Students who live outside of Districts 5 and 6 whose siblings will be enrolled in grades K-8 at TCCS in September 2024.
  3. District 5 or 6 residents who are currently enrolled in PreK at TCCS.
  4. Students who reside outside of Districts 5 and 6 who are currently enrolled at the school in PreK.
  5. District 5 and 6 residents.
  6. Students who live outside of Districts 5 and 6.

  • 2024-2025 School Year Middle School deadline is December 8, 2023.
  • 2024-2025 School Year Kindergarten deadline is January 19, 2024. Application opens December 5, 2023.
  • 2024-2025 School Year PreK deadline is March 1, 2024. Application opens January 10, 2024.
