Teachers College 2025-2026 After School String Instruction

Teachers College will be offering after school string instruction for grades 4-8. Sessions are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 2:45-4:30. All sessions will be held onsite, in person, at the TCCS Upper School. This year, strings can accommodate 20 students. Participation is free and will begin on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, and run through Tuesday, June 2, 2026.  

 

Students will develop essential skills necessary to build focus and practice working through complex tasks. As a group, we will explore a variety of musical styles while creating a strong technical background with our instruments.

Throughout the year, we will: 

  • Learn how to read musical notation 
  • Learn about the care and upkeep of our instruments
  • Learn the fundamental technical aspects of the violin, viola, or cello
  • Choose and learn a wide variety of repertoire 
  • Learn to improvise on our instruments
  • Thinking critically about intent, effect, musical significance, cultural impact, and critiques
  • Be able to learn solo repertoire to play at family gatherings and other events
 

Teachers College 2025-2026 After School Musical Theatre

Teachers College will be offering after school musical theatre for grades 4-8. Sessions are on Mondays and Thursdays, from 2:45-4:30. All sessions will be held onsite, in person, at the TCCS Upper School. This year, musical theatre can accommodate 15 students. Participation is free and will begin on Monday, September 15, 2025, and run through Monday, June 1st, 2026.

 

In Musical Theatre, students will develop important skills necessary to find their inner voice and build their confidence. Together we will explore a variety of musicals, plays, career paths, technical skills, etc.

 

Throughout the year, they will -

  • Sing songs from musicals
  • Act out scenes from varying sources
  • Write, perform, and direct their own scenes
  • Learn different roles, such as: director, choreographer, producer, music director, stage manager, sound designer, set designer, etc. 
  • Play games to strengthen their improvisation skills, increase their emotional spectrum, build trust with one another
  • Discuss elements of theatre, such as setting, plot, characters, audience, theme, etc. 
  • Thinking critically about intent, effect, musical significance, cultural impact, and critiques
  • Block scenes and choreograph numbers
  • Learn best performing practices 
 

Teachers College 2025-2026 After School Robotics Club

Lego robotics

Teachers College will be offering a Competition Robotics Club for grades 5-8. Sessions are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 2:45-4:30. All sessions will be held onsite, in person, at the TCCS Upper School. This club can accommodate 15 students. Participation is free and will begin on Monday, September 15th, 2025, and run through Thursday, May 7, 2026. We will also have a Jr. Robotics Club for grades 3-4. Sessions will be on Tuesdays from 2:45-4:30. This club can accommodate 8 students. Participation is free and will begin on Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, and run through Thursday, May 7, 2026.

 

Competition Robotics

In the Competition Robotics Team, students will learn how to prototype, build and code LEGO robots to compete in an international robotics competition (FIRST Lego League (FLL)). The competition will introduce students to fundamental STEM concepts, encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, and help them design, build, and program autonomous robots to complete themed missions with their teammates.

 

Throughout the year they will -

  • Design and build LEGO robots to complete this years’ FIRST themed missions
  • Code their robots to complete as many FLL missions as possible
  • Work on their critical thinking, digital literacy and problem solving skills
  • Work with their teammates cooperatively to create one team robot
  • Create a presentation to present to judges both their robot and innovation project – a project based on solving real-world problems through engineering
  • Have hands-on experience and play with other types of robots after the competition in February

 

Junior Robotics

In the Junior Robotics Team, students will learn how to prototype, build and code LEGO robots to prepare as an introduction for the Competition Robotics team. Through Junior Robotics, they will learn fundamental STEM concepts, encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, and help them design, build, and program autonomous robots to complete themed missions with their teammates. In addition, students will learn about other types of robots, and have hands-on experience with different types of robots as well.

 

Throughout the year, they will -

  • Design and build LEGO robots to complete this years’ FIRST themed missions
  • Code their robots to complete as many FLL missions as possible
  • Work with their teammates cooperatively to create one team robot
  • Work on their critical thinking, digital literacy and problem solving skills
  • Create a presentation and poster to present their team journey, robot and team
